Yoga Nidra
The art of letting go
Yoga Nidra is a very old tradition of meditation in which — literally speaking — we meditate lightly while sleeping.
We learn to let go layer by layer and to sink into deep states of relaxation without any effort: into the space between sleep and wakefulness, where deep change and healing become possible.
I AM Yoga Nidra according to Kamini Desai guides us effortlessly from the body to the breath, to the energy body and deeper. The brainwaves pass through different states along the way:
- We arrive in the beta state: our brainwaves are fast, we are awake, our attention is directed outwards. Our brain is busy thinking, analysing and judging.
- Through various techniques we reach the alpha state: our brainwaves slow down. This is the state of daydreaming, deep absorption and flow.
- Deeper still, our brain swings into the theta wave, the state of deep meditation, deep sleep and dreaming. Here we can influence our subconscious. The body sleeps, yet a spark of our awareness remains a wakeful observer.
- In the state of delta waves — the slowest of all brainwaves — we are in dreamless deep sleep. This is where our cells regenerate best. The systems of our body (immune system, hormonal system, nervous system & co.) recover as if during several hours of sleep. Here we perceive turiya: the state of the interconnectedness of everything.
Layer by layer we find our way back and arrive in everyday life rested, refreshed and awake.
Yoga Nidra is a reset for the nervous system, balm for body, mind and soul. There is nothing we can do wrong, nothing to understand or to judge. Only deep relaxation, regeneration and transformation.
You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.
